Queen Brising by Valkyrie-Girl Queen Brising by Valkyrie-Girl
Oh gosh it's been a long time since I posted anything! I am sorry my dear watchers. There is no excuse other than that life is a jerk. Anywho, on to pony!

Here we have yet another Valkyrie pony. Brising Farseer is the Valkyrie Queen during the Successors era of my personal pony timeline headcanon thingy. She takes the throne about a year after Aurora and Corona become Princesses of Equestria so she and them are something of kindred spirits in that they all have a hard time getting used to their sudden royal status. Though Brising enjoyed the good favor of her predecessor, Queen Etta Gnarlmane, she was not at all expecting that she would be named queen after Etta's unexpected passing.

One of the reasons Brising was so surprised at being named queen was that she is blind, an extremely rare occurance among a race that hardly ever suffers from illness or infirmity. For many years she stumbled through life feeling pitied and useless until she was about 30 years old when, gradually, she discovered and extremely unique ability; she can use storms to see. Where ever storm clouds gather and rain begins to fall, she can see that part of the world as though she were looking down from the clouds. There has been no other Valkyrie in known history with such and ability. She calls this power the Eye of the Storm.

While her power is unique and useful it was not the reason she was named queen. Before she passed Queen Etta spoke to the Elder Council about who should succeed her and she nominated Brising, speaking very highly of her kindness, generosity and strength of character. It matter very little to her that Brising would never be a powerful warrior. The Valkyria had seen enough warrior queens and she felt it was time for a change and the council agreed with her unanimously.

Brising struggled at first but with the help of Aurora and Corona and the faith of her people she is well on her way to becoming a legendary Valkyrie queen.

Fun fact: Apparently all Valkyrie queens must have GLORIOUS MANES.

Her blindness obviously prevents her from seeing how beautiful a mare she is if she stood in front of a reflective surface.

Awesome design, and a really compelling backstory to boot.  A blind, peaceful queen of a proud warrior race - must be a strange situation for her.  But having a GLORIOUS MANE probably makes things better.

It is a bit strange for her , especially since she was not expecting to named queen after Etta at all. Completely unexpected. But she has many friends and supporters and she gets a few helpful tips from a couple of princesses who are pretty familiar with suddenly becoming royalty. And yes, having a GLORIOUS MANE makes any situation at least 10 times better.

Very nice!

I'm glad you're back. I figured there'd be problems (what with the move and all) but now you're back with us and good times can be had by all! *cheers*

I am not sure why but I laughed harder than I should have on the "Eye of the Storm". Also, another unique character design and background story, very nice!

But I do have two questions:
1) I noticed that your Valkyrie ponies have strange cute marks. I might be missing something, but what do they stand for? (I am guessing, due to notes that you sometimes put near them, that they are some sort hieroglyphs but that is just a guess).

2) Have you ever thought of making Amazon warrior ponies and implementing them as another faction/tribe?

Well I wouldn't be a very good pony fan if I didn't include glorious puns in my creations somewhere.

As to your questions 1) Valkyria all have runic cutie marks. Each rune in the Old Norse furthark had a particular meaning (they weren't just used for writing, they were also used for magic and fortune telling and such). Every Valkyrie knows what each rune means so they would just as descriptive as a picture for them. Take Brising's, for example. The first rune is Geifu or Gebu which means Gift and the second is Hagal which means hail or air or disruption. Put them together and you get gift of the air (or disruption) or Gift of the Storm which describes her sight ability. As another example Raven's cutie mark combines the runes for day and necessity which describes the fact that she was born in a time of need. And 2) No I haven't really thought about amazon ponies primarily I don't have as much of a passion for Greek Mythology as I do for Norse mythology, particularly the Valkyrie. There are other reasons too but I won't go into them.

Ah, I see. Damn that is pretty elaborate setup and makes a nice sense with the way they are born. But is the cute mark already added by the priestesses to the steel filly statue/sculpture or does it appear after the lighting strikes, thus giving life? And (sorry for flooding you with questions just wanna find out before you become unavailable again ^^') who was the first Valkyrie to be born and, most importantly, did she have GLORIOUS MANE too?

I may or may not have put way too much thought and effort into these pretty ponies. But to answer your question no, the forge priestesses do not put the cutie mark on the steel filly. It does appear on it's own when the filly is about 7 to 10 years old. It still represents their special talent but in a more abstract way. Also it appears before the Valkyrie actually discovers her talent, serving as a sort of guide to point her in the right direction once she reaches an age where she is ready to begin finding her place int he world. Raven is, as always, the exception.

And I'm actually not sure yet about the origins of the Valkyria. I do know that they were created with the specific purpose of keeping the frost dragons from invading and overrunning the rest of the world but who put them there and how and when I do not know. However I can say with certainty that whoever the first Valkyrie was, she definitely had a GLORIOUS MANE.

Also it should be noted that I wasn't GONE gone. I was still answering comments and stuff, I just wasn't posting anything. So feel free to ask questions at any time.

Ah, okey. In that case I shall retire into my layer and ponder some more on what I might ask you in future.

Because she's a rule breaker?

:iconrex42:
Rex42 Featured By Owner Nov 9, 2013  Hobbyist Digital Artist
Well I would not say rule breaker more like unique. And unique on several levels. She was born of queens armor rather than steel filly sculpture/statute and was already fully grown at birth. Those two, especially the ladder, can be a source interesting story telling.

For example: maybe in future something happens and other valkyries start to question Raven due to her unnatural birth or maybe the other way around. Maybe because she was not born like others valkyries she will be immune to some danger that will threaten to destroy the Valkyries and she will be the only with the power to stop the said danger. Maybe she will have to sacrifice her self in process, maybe. But all that is extreme headcanon stuff, though it was born thanks to Raven interesting background. So yeah that, and the fact that she has red eyes, make her my favorite.

Speaking of which, since Raven and Brynie where born at the same time does that mean that Raven is also physically older? As if they die of old age, Raven will be the first to go?

Oh I've already done a lot of thinking about the repercussions of that fact. I'll post about it eventually.

And Raven has a lot of years of adventure and then a lot of years of being queen ahead of her so there's plenty of time and opportunity craziness in the future. i just haven't planned it yet other than that fact that Raven never actually dies as far as anyone knows. She vanishes quite mysteriously many, many years in the future and never returns. I will post about that as well eventually.

Raven and Brynie were born at the same time and are the same age despite Raven appearing older. So had they lived out their lives to the fullest they probably would have died around the same time.

Of course the Queens would have pimped out Manes. They gots to rep the Valkyries and maintain street cred (not to mention in real life animals try to make themselves look bigger and more intimidating).

I'd imagine that she would have Tranquil Fury tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php… trope. Woe to the fool who will earn her ire.

You have a point there about the animals. It actually makes a lot of sense.

And I don't know how much in the way of Tranquil Fury she would have. She has plenty of tranquil most of the time and every now and then she has some pretty good fury but when it comes to the full blown Tranquil Fury she kinda sucks. She's not a warrior in any way, shape or form. Blindness has that effect on ponies.

Awww! Sorry to make you wonder. As I said in the description, life can be a jerk sometimes so I've been dealing with the for the past....however long I've been gone. But I'm glad to be back now (hopefully).

And thank you! And I can't really take all the credit for it. In the game Ni No Kuni there is an epic boss called Eye of the Storm that is literally a giant stylized eye in storm clouds. I thought it was super cool so I took it a ran with it.
