Line of Succession - Freya Greyfeather by Valkyrie-Girl Line of Succession - Freya Greyfeather by Valkyrie-Girl
So after posting my sketches of Queen Brising I decided to take on the task of creating and chronicling each Valkyrie queen from Freya (queen during the events of MLP FiM) all the way through to Brising (queen during my Successors era) which is a span of 1000 years. Thankfully I designed my Valkyrie with extended life spans. Even so there are 12 of them altogether plus some extras. Ah well. I hope y'all like Valkyria!

Many of you are probably already familiar with Queen Freya having seen her here valkyrie-girl.deviantart.com/a… and read about her here valkyrie-girl.deviantart.com/a… but she hasn't really gotten any attention of her own.

She is Queen of the Valkyrie when Twilight Sparkle accidentally discovers their hidden valley. She succeeded Queen Valmya the Falcon who stepped down after loosing a wing in battle. Freya was crowned at the age of 90 and reigned for 170 years when she was killed in battle against the king of the frost giants. The most notable events of her reign was the birth of Raven, who will become one of the greatest and most mysterious queens in Valkyria history, and for being the first queen in ages to make contact with the outside world. With the help Twilight Sparkle, Queen Freya forges the first alliance with Equestria, one which remains in tact for the reign of the next four queens and is only broken when Queen Hjalma the White goes mad (which in all reality wasn't really her fault...but that is a story for later...).

Fraya is most renown for her kindness and concern for the well being of her subjects. She is a proficient warrior but only out of necessity. Her real strength is in her administrative abilities, in governing fairly and keeping the peace between the various Valkyrie factions. She is also a great mother, oddly enough for a race that does not give birth.

Her cutie mark is the rune Othala which means "Inheritance" and the rune Sowulo which means "Sun" which represents her destiny as queen.

Uuuuuuuh! dat Raven reference! Also...dat Queen Hjalma the Mad foreshadowing, now that sounds very interesting. And ouch! The last queen lost the wing? What happened to her after Frey received the throne?

Haha! Glad I've got your interest.

Valmya was something of an arrogant queen. She was the best flying warrior that the Valkyria kingdom had seen in ages and it made her pretty prideful. When she lost her wing she felt she had lost her identity and fell into such a depression that she could no longer preform her royal duties and stepped down. Normally the queen would select her potential successor but in this case Valmya, in her pride had never named one and the council of elders had to chose in her stead. A few years after Freya was crowned, Valmya died in a suicide charge against a group of frost dragons.
