Amulet's Origin

Description

So here are two characters that have been bouncing around in my head for a while now. Ever since the episode Magic Duel aired I was intrigued by the Alicorn Amulet where it came from. Also I really dislike the word alicorn to describe a winged unicorn. Couldn't tell you why, I just bugs me. So I came up with something of an explanation to explain the amulet and make me feel better about the word alicorn. So have some dramatic ramblings bellow!

***
It the time before Starswirl, even before the tradition of Hearth’s Warming Eve began to be celebrated, a young unicorn named Alicorn prevented a war between the three pony tribes and so was transformed into a living representation of harmony to act as a reminder to all of how the three types of ponies should live in unity with one another. She was the first of her kind and all others after her bear her name to honor her. However she was not satisfied with things the way they were. Her younger sister, whose name has been lost to the ages, was crippled, both in her leg and in her magic. Alicorn dreamed of being able to grant her sister the ability to use magic as other unicorns could. One night, Alicorn watched as a fiery star fell to earth. Seeing that it fell not far away she set out to find it. Upon finding it she took it back to her home and crafted it into an amulet and imbued it with her own magical power. When her sister put it on, it unlocked her stunted magical ability and granted her power beyond that of any unicorn alive. The sisters were filled with joy and they lived in happiness with the rest of pony kind for many years. But during that time the amulet slowly began to show another aspect of its nature, for it is often true that great power comes at a great price. As the years wore on, darkness crept into the younger sister’s heart that shaped itself into a nameless hatred for Alicorn that had no source and did not abate with time. Though she eventually discovered that the amulet was the source of the darkness, she could not bring herself to give up her magic and so kept it secret from her sister until, many years later, it consumed her. She lashed out against Alicorn and the united pony tribes. Through her actions the spirit of distrust and disharmony once again reigned in the hearts of ponies. A war between sisters was waged, both sides suffered, and the younger sister was eventually defeated. In the final battle her body was destroyed but her power was so great that she had to be sealed in a tomb and buried deep within the earth. Alicorn tried to repair the wounded bonds between the pony tribes during the years that followed but she had suffered too much pain, too much heartbreak and the strain proved too great. She died while she was still young and was entombed with her sister. Without her to guide them, the three pony tribes fell into disharmony.

And I really feel like a giant jerk coming up with such a sad story. I don't think I've ever made a character who died of a broken heart before. Huh.

Also, despite taking place in the far flung past, the story of Alicorn and her sister does eventually have to do with Aurora and Corona in their not so far flung future!

was listening to this www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBgGgz… while reading. It made for a very good dramatic effect!
